Inn the Village B&B began as a family house. The two images above show the house and its
inhabitants in the 1880’s. Known as the “Hoyt House,” it remained with
the Hoyt family until the 1990’s.
The image to the right is the house as it was before the renovation began. In
doing the renovation, you can see that we restored the original circular
window. It was there all along. We discovered it hidden beneath the clapboards
when we tore them off to put back what was there. We also brought back the
shutters, window mantels and gingerbread trim which had been lost over the
years.
When we tore down the back
of house to completely rebuilt it, two Bennington pots were recovered under 6
feet of soil. One of them is shown here. It was found in the digging, complete
with all of its pieces, beautiful, a taste of nostalgia from earlier times. One
can just imagine it being used to carry water or maple syrup. It is too
precious now and too fragile to do anything else but to sit on a shelf and be
appreciated as a reminder of where this whole project started.
